Why An Artist’s Laments?

History is filled with the lamentations of artists — stories of "starving artists" and creators who’ve loved and lost, stumbled and soared. My story is one of both sorrow and joy. Sorrow for the days and people I’ve had to let go of, and joy for having lived them fully. And of course, the ongoing challenges of aging, illness, reinvention, and rediscovery.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve created. Art has always been how I express, process, and heal. This blog began as a personal space to document my journey of rediscovering who I am — as a person and as an artist — in a life full of transitions.

After retiring from teaching, caregiving for my mother, and then relocating to a new country, I found myself leaning more deeply into digital art and storytelling. An Artist’s Laments is where I share that process — the mess and the magic — and connect with others on a similar path.

An Invitation

If you’ve ever struggled to find your footing again after loss or questioned who you’re becoming in the second or third act of your life, you’re not alone.

This is a space for us — the artists, the wanderers, the late bloomers, the reinventors.  A space for curiosity, courage, and creative mending.

I hope you'll join me. Let’s seek out the muse, find our voice, and share the journey.

Welcome to An Artist’s Laments.

Let’s grow something beautiful together.

This site occasionally uses AI tools (such as Grammarly, ChatGPT, or Canva Magic Write) to assist with writing, editing, or organization. All ideas, stories, and creative reflections are my own—AI is simply a tool I use, like a paintbrush or palette knife, to support my process.
